Vintage Finds and Unfinished Projects

I'm in love with these. Aparantly the water jug is from the 1800's as well as the cups. I'm going to use the jug as a vase and I'm not sure what i'll do with the cups. They both have cracks in them, so maybe pincushions or I'll plant ferns in them?

I love the gorgeous detailing on this. Great inspiration for decorative painting. I'll have to start painting again.

Look at this sad and sorry bunch. Still haven't finished my elepahant, the brown bear needs a hair cut and ear re-adgustment, and the little one needs some eyes, ears and a haircut.... oh, and a nose. And I'm thinking I'll have to dress them all in something fabulous and very vintagey.

Then it's onto the other 10 or so little people I haven't finished yet. This is the year I'm actually going to finisish projects.

How cute is this face!

The last of the gorgeous handmade soaps that I stock next to a bunch of velvet violets.

I am planning a vintage inspired wedding section in my shop, hopefully I'll have enough stock made by this Sunday's trade. I've been inspired by the countless images I've seen on the net and the many bridal mags I have been buying. There seems to be a move to 'vintage rustic', which I love.

Blue and Night Shopping

I'm loveing blue at the moment. I scored this from my friend Rosemary. I dry brushed the whole thing with creamy white paint to take the edge off the blueness. It's going home with me once I'm finished with it in my shop.

I still fhave some of these large cups and saucers left. Great for steaming hot coffee with breakfast.

I'm open tonight from 3.30 to 9 pm. Most shops are open and there's usually a good selection of market stalls. Should be a good night.

Hasn't the weather been just beautiful lately. I love it that it's been cooler and less humid than other years. I hope it lasts

I like thes little magnets, I have them scattered throughout my shop.

I bought this large framed painting/drawing from a friend of mine. I think it's vintage, and it certainly is shabby with it's chippy peeling frame.

I really love this old door knob mounted on wood . I'm tempted to keep it for myself.

It's Been a While

Yes, it's been a while since I last posted. I blame it on my computer...it shuts down all the time, and is especially frustrating to get anything done. So I've been avoiding trying to do anything on here, but I thought it was about time I looked after my little blog, regardless of the annoyance of shut-downs.

I've been waiting to get a new computer, but saving for one can take a long time. I'll have to make do with this one and put up with it for a while.

Thought I'd show you some images of my shop from today. I can't wait for tomorrow, our busiest day.

I love this vintage sewing basket that I have all these pincushions displayed in. There are some things in my shop I won't sell, and this is one of them.

My personalised name cushions are selling really well at the moment. I find them relaxing to make. I think it's all the repetitive hand stitching.

Did anyone else get all that crazy hail the other day? They were the biggest hail I've ever seen.

I got caught in a hail storm years ago. I was driving along the highway when it hit, and had no safe place to stop, so my car got alot of hail damage.

Luckily I wasn't driving this time.

Jane Davenport Class at Byron

I had a fantastic day today with Sally from Happily Ever Artist and Sally's friend Liz.

We headed off really early at 5.30 in the morning for Byron and had the most fun time at Jane Davenport's class on drawing faces. Jane made us feel so welcome and I really love what she taught us....the 2 hour class flew by in no time. Her technique has given me confidence to draw and paint my own originals.

I'm hooked. I think I'll be going back for more.

Hi Everyone. I hope your weekend was a good one.

Mine was pretty good. I went to Collectorama at Nambour on Saturday, but didn't buy much at all. Too pricey for my liking, even though I loved looking. Heaps to look at, and almost too much to take in. It was my first time going, and really didn't know what to expect, so I'll be more prepared next time and take more money.

Pluuuus, finally found the disc that goes with my good camera, so I can upload images onto my computer. After a good couple of years looking it was stored in a spot right under my nose.

I took this one of myself on Sunday after a day at my shop Billy Angel, a little bit wind-blown and tired. I'll have to learn how to properly use it so I can start to take really good quality photos.

I'm sitting here at the computer at 2.30 in the morning, so I thought I'd do another blog post.

Here's another look at my past work.

I have a serious addiction to books and magazines. I am still waiting on a craft book I ordered online at a reduced price, but I saw it last week in a bookstore and bought it anyway.....because the temptation was too great, and I just had to have it right then and there. I have a huge dose buyers remorse now, it's a regular thing for me.

Aaand, I love chairs. I bought a gorgeous vintage office chair all the way from France and I absolutely love it, chipping peeling paint and all. I've never seen one like it before. It's one of my furiture purchases I'm never going to sell. I'll take a photo and put it up this week.

Still going through some of my previous work.

I just love to dabble in every type of craft, I just can't stick to one, which makes life a bit chaotic at times. Everything seems to take my breath away, and I just want to try everything.

I'm going to a very exciting drawing/painting class in Byron Bay with my lovely shop neighbour Sally. Can't wait! 31/2 weeks to go.

Tomorrow I'm going to my weekly bear making class with Julie and Lisa.

I also want to tackle a photographic course to know how to best use my 'spensive camera I bought a couple of years ago and have no idea how to use.

Life's wonderful and too, too short.

I got lucky this morning and found this washing trolly at a garage sale.

I painted it as soon as I got home ready for tomorrow at Old Petrie Town. I'm not sure if it's a vintage one or not, but I really love it.

It's going to look great in my shop with stock displayed in it.

Mosaics and Our Bear Making Class

Just in to Billy Angel is a gorgeous range of mosaics. I especially like these three inspirational words to beautify any room. I also have mini hanging hearts, frames and lots more.

The weather has been so perfect lately, it's hard to believe it's actually still winter. I had the ladies from our bear making group come to my shop for a get together. We had lots of fun drinking coffee, eating lots of fattening foods, laughing, chatting and creating. It was such a perfect day. Amongst our group were Julie, Lisa, Pam, Rosemary, Tina and Jackie. I did my usual absentminded thing and forgot to take photos of the day, but thanks to Julie, she has done a blog entry with photos. You can have a look at them here.

Bears and Dolls

Just new in to Billy Angel.

Cute and unique raggy bears in two sizes plus raggedy dolls. Fun, colourful and great

as gifts. Bird houses and quilted baby wraps as well.

I really love buying new stock for my shop, it's so much fun. I also love creating new stock, be it sewing, painting, crocheting, embroidery, bear making and just about anything else I can get my hands on.

Hopefully I will be a bit more productive in the coming weeks finishing off projects, so there should be new things every week to add to my shop.

I have quite a few mohair bears and elephants on the go, so i just can't wait to get them finished and then dressed in their little vintagey outfits.

Beautiful

I spent the day up at Noosa this week, possibly my most favorite place to be. I often dream about living there, in my white beach house, with the sound of the waves in my ears every day and the beauty of the sun glimmering on the water. I have my eye on one particular house that I have loved for at least 15 years. It's not overly big or flash, but I love it.

It's funny, because I am not a beach goer at all but I love the beauty and lifestyle of it, not to mention the shops and cafes. I always go to Aromas to get my coffee fix. I feel like I've missed out on something if I don't go.

If I wasn't so shy about my white and wobbly bits, I would probably get out a bikini and enjoy sunbathing and swimming, but I'm happy just to look and soak in the sights, sounds and smells.

Gone to a New Home

This little bunny that I've been working on for a little while has gone to a new home to the lovely Nikki from Peas and Carrots Photography.

I take a really long time to complete a bunny, elephant or bear because I get distracted by other projects. Plus every one I make is completely hand-stitched. I just want to do everything, which leads to too many unfinished little creatures.

I'm working on a pink elephant at the moment. I'm determined to complete it.

Rosey Little Birdhouses

Isn't this the sweetest little birdhouse. Being that I love all things miniature or small, these are right up my ally.....they're only 6 inches high.

I've had a few of these in the raw state tucked away for a long time, so I decided to do something with them at last. I've painted them in the softest shade of white and painted tiny little roses. They're slightly crackled and sanded back to give them a bit of character.

They'll be in my bricks and mortar shop Billy Angel tomorrow at Old Petrie Town, Dayboro Rd, Kurwongbah (just past Petrie). Say hi if you come.

I Love My Books plus A Roadside Find

Yes, I really, REALLY love my books. I know alot of people can relate. Always an endless supply of inspiration.

Don't you love the little set of drawers they're on. It's even got little rusty wheels on the legs and everything. It was a roadside find, painted and gifted to me a few years ago by a friend. I love it so much.

And the little bunny was a first attempt at making one of these a couple of years ago. I really wasn't happy with it's little ear. I still think it's cute though.

A Bird and Roses on an Old Case

I loved this tatty paint-splatterd case so much I decided to add a bit more white paint to smooth it out and paint a bird and roses as well.

I'll be taking it to my shop tomorrow, so here's hoping that the weather is fine and sunny.

Vintage Teapot and Tattered Roses

I'm really loving this vintage teapot at the moment. I found it at an op shop yesterday and was going to completely get rid of the black tarnish, but I like it the way it is. It really makes a lovely vase. It has a small split at the base so I put a glass inside to hold the water and tatty roses which are on their last legs. Perfect match for the teapot.

I rang my friend Julie, who has way more knowledge on these sort of things, and asked her opinion on whether she thought it was real silver, and she seems to think it is.

It'll be for sale in my shop Billy Angel this Sunday at Old Petrie Town, Dayboro Rd, Kurwongbah (just past Petrie) if I can bare to part with it.

Dogs, Pasta, Pizza and the Beach

I've been on the go non-stop lately.

Here's a little of what I've been up to.

Cuddling my dogs.

Ate Pasta and Pizza at Vapiano with my daughter....delicious.

Stayed at the beach....only for three days though. Our poor little dogs missed us too much.

Went to the CraftExpo at South Bank and hardly bought a thing. There was nothing new or exciting. Very dissapointing. So I went over to Folio Books in the city and bought another Japanese craft book I'd never seen before. I just couldn't possibly have left it behind, even though I really couldn't afford it.

I want to make these little cuties.

This morning I went to a megga church jumble sale. I got there not expecting much at all, but it was huuuge. I know where I'll be going from now on. Beats Vinnies and Endos for bargains....I got a bag of doilies for $3.50, a picnick basket, cups and saucers, cake plates, plus lots and lots more.

I joined a gym this week. Still have to go for my first workout.

Had to buy things to workout in, and found some really good things at Big W. This blue mens shirt (I like mine big and roomy) cost me a whopping $5. So happy. Flowers optional.

Working Hard

I've been disconnected from the internet for most of the week. All fixed now, phew! Funny how strange and disconnected from the world you feel when it's taken away.

Trying to work hard this week. Cushions to embroider and sew up, and chairs to paint. Here's hoping for a busy Sunday. Yay, I love my little shop. Come say hi Sunday if you're anywhere near Old Petrie Town.

I'm on my own for 4 Sundays. My lovely Mother, who usually mans the shop with me, is going away on a beach holiday with my Dad, lucky them. What I'm most distressed about is that I can't leave the shop to go and have my usual coffee fix. I'll have to downgrade and bring my own.

Thought I'd throw in a picture of one of my chihuahuas (I have two). I thought she sort of matched the cushion I'm making at the moment. She doesn't like having her photo taken, as you can tell from her expression.

Flowers That Never Die

I purchased some new 'flowers that never die' yesterday for my shop, Billy Angel. I used to call them fake flowers all the time, until I had my previous shop with Linda, who pointed out they were silk, not fake. I think I like the term 'flowers that never die'. It seems a more romantic name to me, like 'love that never dies'.
I don't normally like the colour purple, but I don't mind the shade of purple of these flowers, plus I wanted something different to the pink roses I always get.

I had the day out with Pam from Cloth to Creation and we both quickly had something yummy to eat at The Riverbend Bookstore (one of my favourite places), I then bought another book at Mary Ryans that I just had to have, took a short trip to The Cottage Garden Nursery followed by The Wooloongabba Antique Centre, and then bought my flowers around the corner at a wholesale supplier (and some little feather birds I'll show in another post). Phew!

Blue Orange and Brown

It has always been a dream on mine to have a little coffee and cake corner in my shop. Just a small area, but cosy and relaxing with beautiful music and fresh flowers on the tables.

I would source some very unique and wonderful little cakes (no way am I cooking) and have really good coffee.

How perfect would these little cakes be.

I do spend ALOT of my time dreaming.

Little Peachy Pink Bird

I love making these birds, and my favourite fabric to use is linen.

I bought a large piece of the palest peachy pink linen from a fashion store in the city and I just love it. I really don't like the colour peach (it reminds me of my ex-husband, long story), but this fabric has enough pink tone to it to make me like it.

A new year and a fresh start.

Well, here's hoping anyway. I always have good intentions, but somehow they get lost as the weeks go by.

Does anyone else go through some soul searching this time of year, and then get a new surge of enthusiasm to make your life some kind of a success? Along with a good dose of depression? I'm sure I'm one of many.

I'm determined to list a whole heap of things on my 2 Etsy stores this year, starting with my children's store Billy Angel Petite.

I just love it all.

It's Beginning To Look Alot Like Christmas

It really is starting to feel 'Christmassy' at last. I can just about smell it.

Does anyone else get smells from the past that just seem to crop up out of nowhere?

My Christmas smells are from my childhood when we used to get real Christmas trees. I can smell pine trees. I really love that smell. The other smell that reminds me off Christmas is the smell of plastic that brand new dolls are made of, and all of the excitement that went along with it. Am I strange?

Vintage Green Chair

Just new in my shop, this gorgeous vintage chair that has been re-apolstered. I have left the original paint, chips and all. I think scratches, chips and general wear give a piece such character don't you?

About 90% of my own furniture at home is like this. And if you come to my shop Billy Angel at Old Petrie Town at Kurwongbah (just past Petrie) you'll find that all of my furniture I use to display stock is like this. Even my shop itself is an old church sectioned off into three. I really don't like alot of the brand new stuff.....the old and worn seems like home to me.

I'm not sure how old it is because I'm far from and expert, but it seems quite old to me, maybe 1930s or1940s? Has anyone any ideas the age of this chair?

It sits quite low because the legs are short which I think is unusual.

I wish this was where I lived, my home.

I took a trip to Noosa and it was just breathtaking. My photos really don't do it justice. It was an overcast day but still absolutely gorgeous. Being overcast gave the whole place an almost dream-like quality and the water was a glassy greeny blue. Just beautiful.

I took a walk up Little Cove to the sounds of the waves, walked along the beach and dreamed of living there. Maybe one day.

I'm going over in my head how I can make it a reality.

Boutique Markets

Such a good day today at the Boutique Markets. Great weather and lovely people. Mum manned my shop Billy Angel at Old Petrie Town, while I had the luxury of having a stall there today. Plus I was lucky enough to get in early and buy some Authentic French Macaroons.
I'll be quite busy this week, making more stock for my shop and the next Boutique Markets in two weeks time. I have such a great job!

My Workspace

My workspace today as I work on some orders and watch the weather. Always changing because I love to create so many kinds of crafts and always messy. I wish I was one of those people who had a really organized work space, but it's just not happening. I spend half my time looking for a button or a certain thread or fabric.

The Twilight Markets are on tonight and the weather forcast is for rain and damaging winds, so I'm not so sure whether I'll open my little shop Billy Angel.

I had a smashed car window last week so I don't think I want to risk it this week. If it looks promising I'll be there.

At least the weather forcast for Sunday is promising.

I'm at Old Petrie Town, Dayboro Rd, Kurwongbah (just past Petrie). It's such a leafy old worldy (is that a word?)gorgeous spot.

Twilight Markets

Twilight markets are wonderful. The atmospher and the lights just make it lovely to be there.

I took a couple of photos of some of my new stock, even though the lighting at night is not the best for good shots.

I re-arranged most of my shop this week, and it's starting to look a bit fuller. It's such a big open space and I love it.

I soooo love Greengate and Cath Kidston Fabrics. I especailly love this paisley fabric from Greengate.

I luckily found a small supply on the internet and happily forked over money for these gorgeous fabrics.

Special little name cushions using these designs will be making a first appearance at my Billy Angel stall at the Boutique Markets on Sunday 10th October. Can't wait.

Sunday was fabulous at my shop Billy Angel. Lovely people and perfect weather.

Here's a couple of images I took of the new stock I've made. I never seem to take enough....there's just too much going on. I'm getting a vintage/shabby table for the shop this coming Sunday to display stock. Looks like a re-arrange is in order and I'll have to remember to take some photos.

What a great day my first day open was. Lots and lots of people through, and the shop has such a great feeling to it. Lots of friends paid a visit....Julie, Linda, Rosey, Trish and Alan, Lisa and many many more. A big thanks again to Pam and her husband Bob for carting all my furniture to the shop.

Spring

Spring is my absolute favourite time of the year.

I took these photos just before dusk from my shop's front door as I was listening to all of the birds chirping.

I have been sanding, painting, cleaning, getting excited, worrying, working at my part time job, not sleeping, thinking 'what have I done' to 'I'm so happy I'm opening a little shop of my very own', setting up, and worrying again non-stop for a good couple of weeks, and I'm tired but happy, and feeling like it's the absolute best thing I could be doing.

The shop's looking VERY spacious and it'll take me a while to fill it, but I am so happy with my little corner of the world.

A New Begining

Well, I've got the keys and I open Billy Angel the shop at Old Petrie Town, Kurwongbah on the 5th of September. Lots of work to do in the 2 weeks before I open.

Lots of cleaning and painting of walls and doors to do, and moving everything in. And even though I have alot of work ahead of me, I feel like I've made the right decision to open a shop again. I feel grounded once more.

I can remember when I was only 3 or 4 playing with pretend money, and growing up having pretend shops selling to my brothers and sisters. I've always dreamt of having a shop, and I visit other gift shops to feel good and dream. It's always been in me.

I opened a little sub-let space in 2004, and eventually left there and moved into Lilly Cottage with Linda.
I'm so excited to have a little space of my own once again.
I'm thinking creamy white walls and maybe pale aqua doors. Not sure yet. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Boutique Markets

Sunday was a beautiful day at the Boutique Markets. Perfect weather and wonderful stalls and I bought the most gorgeous fruit bread from the Gourmet Alley.

My new little elephant made and appearance Sunday. I think I will be making a few more before the year's out. I think she's very cute and I'd like to make some for boys as well.

I have a few new ideas in the works for next month. Can't wait!

Here a are a couple of images of my past creations. For a time I used to paint soooo much.
I have been making and selling my crafts for almost 20 years and have made and sold just about every craft you can think of.

The very first time I went to sell my hand made items at a market, I was so nervous I just wanted to cry and go home. I knew no one, and I think I only sold one small item.
Years of packing the night before, setting up, packing my car up again, then crashing from exhaustion when I got home.
For some of those years I did have a shop which was a real luxury.
But now I'm so excited that I've been accepted to sell my goods at the Boutique Markets at Portside as a permanent stallholder. I just love the Boutique Markets!!

Pretty Weddings

Aren't these wedding images just gorgeous!

I've always loved pretty weddings for inspiration, as much as I love decorating and craft. I have been religeously buying Martha Stewart Weddings magazines forever, and I would never think of throwing out one single copy because they are so beautiful.

If I ever have another wedding, I would love one similar to this(but with vintage white mis-matched chairs), until I change my mind and find another one I love more.

Boutique Markets

I had a really wonderful day at the Boutique Markets yesterday. The weather was perfect, even if it was a little on the cold side and there were some really gorgeous dogs walking around. I was in my element being a such big dog lover. There was a really adorable little pug , owned by one of the stall holders, that I could have just taken him home with me. I wish I took some photos of him.

Lots of interest in my little cushions, which was great. It really motivates and inspires me when I know customers like my creations.

Sigh. I just adore Michelle's work.
Michelle from Swept Away Studios designed my new logo, watermark and business cards. I have been looking for months for someone who's design work I loved, and I found her through Etsy here and she also has a blog.

Michelle is super lovely and helpful, and I just can't recommend her highly enough. The only problem is, I love her work so much, if I see another logo I just can't live without, I'm snapping it up.

Boutique Markets

I had a woderful day yesterday selling at the Boutique Markets at the Portside Wharf, in Hamilton.
I just love it there, and the standard of handmade goods there is excellent. The weather was just perfect, and I met some really lovely people, which made it an all round great day.

I wanted to take some photos of my whole tent display with my appliqued business name showing, but I forgot. I always forget something!

To Paint White or No

What to do.
I love all things white, but I'm loving the colour of wood at the moment plus that industrial look that seems to be creeping its way in all over the internet and magazines.
I'm all over the place in what I love in decorating and even in my craft making.

Is anybody else in the same predicament? I just don't know what direction to take, which is not an earth shattering dilema, but
I just end up doing nothing, which is frustrating me.
What to do?!

I think I'll give them a decent scrub and disinfect, seeing as they were a roadside find (yay, they were free) and then decide. What do you think?
But aren't they a great find....and they're large. So I think I'll use them to store my sheets and blankets, seeing as I live in a tiny space and have a limited amount of cupboard space.

I've added another new cushion to my Billie Girl Etsy Store. I added touches of black, which I don't normally do, and thought it looked kind of French.

I love making these cushions. Like I said in a previous post, I find embroidery extremely relaxing.....plus they're a no brainer because I have been making these for quite a while now.

I've been working hard while it's been raining. Plenty of coffee, and doing what I love...creating. I find embroidery really relaxing and enjoyable.

Floral Hair Pins

I'm really liking hair accessories at the moment, so I've decided to make some to sell. Just finished these today and you can find them in my Etsy store here.

One of my most favorite fabrics is silk satin. I love the sheen, the way it falls, and the beautiful subtle colours. I bought ivory and soft pink yesterday, along with bridal tulle to match, and I just couldn't wait to use them. I've made so many yo-yos and roses ready to be use in hair clips....so much fun.
